Episode 4 – Online Dating Viewer Questions and Answers

Here is Episode 4 of Online Dating Tonight and this is the first episode where we tackled viewer online dating questions. You can submit your question to be answered on a future episode by sending that question to cassandra@onlinedatingtonight.com. As always, we’ve put the transcript of this episode under the video…

Online Dating Questions and Answers

TRANSCRIPT

Cassandra:
Good evening and welcome to a special edition of Online Dating Tonight. Tonight we are taking viewer questions submitted by you. We will be doing episodes like this several times a year, so be sure to email your questions. As you can see to my right, our special guests from the first three episodes are back to help answer questions.

(Jezebell, Alex, and Damien are seated in the guest chairs. The audience applauds. Alex stands and starts waving to the crowd)

Alex:
Thank you. Thanks. Thank you very much. Thank you. I appreciate it. Thank you. It means so much to me. Thank you so much. You guys are the best in the world. Thank you.

Cassandra:
Feel free to have a seat.

(Alex sits)

Cassandra:
Thank you. Thank you very much, Alex. I appreciate it.

(audience laughs)

Cassandra:
OK, let’s get started. Here’s how it will work. I will read from my teleprompter questions sent in by viewers. Whoever is most qualified to answer it will. Our first question comes from Bob. Bob writes, “Cassandra, are you a real person?” Bob, what do you think? You are watching me right now. It’s not like I’m an animated character or something like that.

Cassandra:
OK, next question. Johnny writes, “Are you single”? Take a look at my ring finger. Will you be the first to put a $250,000 diamond ring on it?

(audience laughs)

Cassandra:
Next questions is from Jessica. She writes, “Cassandra, I love your makeup and hair. Who does them?”

(Damien interrupts)

Damien:
Excuse me, Cassandra, but will there be any questions for us to answer?

Cassandra:
That’s a good question, Damien. Alright folks, as much as I admire your questions about me, please send in questions about online dating that we can answer for you.

Cassandra:
And it looks like our next question is about online dating. Jill asks, “What is the most popular online dating service?” Alex, this is the perfect question for you.

Alex:
Thank you. The most popular online dating service is Match.com. The most popular free online dating service is PlentyOfFish.com. Finally, the most popular relationship service is eHarmony.com.

Cassandra:
Thanks, Alex. Our next question comes from Amanda. She writes, “Dear Cassandra, I live in the United States and for several weeks I have been communicating with a man, in the U.K. We talk on the phone, email each other, and even write letters. He is an oil consultant, which has him traveling to places like Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria. On his last trip to Nigeria, he sent me a couple of gifts. I saw your episode on Online Dating Scammers. Should i be concerned?” Jezebell, do you want to take this one?

Jezebell:
Sure. As a scammer myself… uh… I mean former scammer, I can tell you that it sounds like Amanda is being scammed. He’s waiting to ask her for money because he wants to reel her in first. Once he knows that Amanda is head over heels in love with him, he will be on one of his “trips” when an “emergency” suddenly comes up and he needs money from her.

Cassandra:
Amanda, it doesn’t sound good. You may want to stick with dating people who live close by to you. Our final question for today comes from Peter. He asks, “is it safer to use a paid online dating service versus a free online dating service?” Good question, Peter. Let’s have Damien answer this one.

Damien:
It’s always important to think about safety, whether you are on a paid, or free, online dating service. The thing with paid services is that they require members to provide identifiable information like a credit card, which may scare off some “no good doers”. With free online dating services there is no identifiable information provided. But we know that, like with paid services, people have also found good matches with free dating sites.

Cassandra:
That’s our show for tonight. We look forward to seeing you next week. Good night.

(concluding music plays. show is over)

Alex:
Hey, Cassandra, would you go on a date with me for a $200 ring?

Damien:
I bid a $250 dollar ring!

Jezebell:
My bid is a $300 ring.

Alex:
$301

Damien:
$304

Jezebell:
$310

Damien:
$311 and a free dance.

(Damien begins dancing)

Cassandra:
Very funny, guys. Ha-ha. I think I will go home now and take a bath. And no, you can’t come with me.

Episode 3 – Online Dating Safety Tips

Below is Episode 3 of the Online Dating Tonight show. This episode sports a slightly different “feel” with more great information delivered in a creative fashion. As always, we’ve posted the transcript of the show below the video.

Online Dating Safety Tips

TRANSCRIPT

Cassandra:
Good evening. I’m Cassandra and this is Online Dating Tonight. Let’s get started with tonight’s important online dating topic and that would be online dating safety. To discuss online dating safety, please help me welcome online dating safety expert, Damien.

(Damien is wearing blue gloves)

Damien:
Thank you, Cassandra. It is a pleasure to be here.

Cassandra:
Why the blue gloves?

Damien:
Oops. I forgot I had them on. In addition to being an online dating safety expert, I’m also an airport security guard and I just got off work.

Cassandra:
I thought, perhaps you were auditioning for the Blue Man Group (laughter). So back to our topic. What, in your opinion, are the top 5 most important online dating safety tips for online daters to follow?

Damien:
First, remember that online dating profiles are personas. You don’t really know who is behind that profile. So until you get to know them better, guard your personal information including your name, job, and other info that can identify you.

Cassandra:
That’s good advice. What’s second?

Damien:
Second, don’t continue communicating with someone who makes excuses for not being able to meet in person. They are likely a scammer or married.

Cassandra:
Married people using online dating services?

Damien:
Yes. Almost 30% of people that use online dating services are married.

Cassandra:
What a shame.

Damien:
My third tip is about email. At some point you may want to communicate with someone outside of the dating site that you are using. For this, set up a free email account and do not list your full name on the account. Use the account only for your dating communications.

Cassandra:
When you mention free email accounts, are you talking about sites like Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail?

Damien:
Absolutely. Hot male, like me (audience laughter). Fourth, once you’ve gotten to know someone, do a background check and Google check on them. You do not need to be obsessive about it, but it is good to know with whom you are getting involved. Fifth, and finally, if you are meeting someone in person then meet in a public place. Also, drive yourself to the date and make sure someone knows where your date is and who you are with. And by the way, Cassandra, a good first date is a coffee place because it isn’t intimidating and it gives you the chance to see if there is chemistry before going on more elaborate dates.

Cassandra:
Wow, some dating tips too? So, Damien, do you take your first dates out for coffee?

Damien:
Yes. At the airport. (audience laughter)

Cassandra:
That is all the time we have for this week’s episode. If you are navigating the busy superhighway of love, always be safe and alert. Next week will be a special episode as I answer reader questions. Email your questions to me through cassandra@onlinedatingtonight.com. I will see you next week.

(concluding music plays — show is over)

Damien:
Cassandra, I did a Google check on you and see you like dancing. Tell me what you think of my new dance moves.

(Damien begins dancing – doing a “Robot-like” dance. Cassandra isn’t impressed. But she eventually starts mimicking his dance)

Episode 2 – Online Dating Scams

Here is episode #2 of Online Dating Tonight. This episode deals with Online Dating Scams. Below the video is a transcript.

TRANSCRIPT

Cassandra:
Welcome to Online Dating Tonight by Online Dating Magazine. I’m your host, Cassandra, and tonight our special guest is a former scammer who made tons of money from online daters. She’s a convicted felon who is taking a break from behind bars to enlighten us. Please welcome Jezebell.

(crowd boos)

Jezebell:
Thank you. Anything to get me out of my cell is welcome.

Cassandra:
Tell us, Jezebell, why would you steal money from innocent people?

Jezebell:
You mean gullible people? Look, if you are willing to give your money to me, then I am willing to take it.

Cassandra:
Well you certainly don’t sound like a nice person. Tell us, how do these online dating scams work?

Jezebell:
It’s easy really. I simply put up a fake profile with a fake picture. I then start communicating with men. I email them, message them, and even talk to them on the phone. I spend weeks doing this to get them to fall in love with me and trust me. Then I create a fake emergency and ask them for money.

Cassandra:
You mean you can actually get these men to fall in love with you without ever meeting them?

Jezebell:
Of course, because they are falling in love with a persona. I can be whatever they want me to be online and they will never have a clue.

Cassandra:
So how can they get a clue?

Jezebell:
There are signs we count on them not seeing. For example, we like to rush things to get them to fall in love with us sooner rather than later. We also have lots of good excuses for not meeting in person. The biggest clue is that we are asking for thousands of dollars! We count on love being blind and in most cases it is blind. And my reward is a fat wallet.

Cassandra:
How much do scammers make from scamming online daters?

Jezebell:
Millions of dollars. Every year. There’s definitely not a shortage of people to scam.

Cassandra:
What can be done to put a stop to these scams?

Jezebell:
Online dating services should do more to educate consumers. And online daters should do more to educate themselves. Publications like Online Dating Magazine offer good tips to avoid scams. It’s also important to remember that a lot of men are scamming women.

Cassandra:
So should people not participate in online dating?

Jezebell:
There’s nothing wrong with online dating. Simply put, don’t date someone you cannot meet in person. And, by the way, I’m on a prisoner online dating service right now. My username is my prisoner ID if anyone is interested. Be sure to bring your wallet.

Cassandra:
And with that I’d say we are out of time. But, of course, Jezebell,  you have lots of time! Join us in our next episode of online dating tonight where we will discuss online dating safety tips. Until then, I’m your host Cassandra. Good night.

(concluding music plays — show is over)

Jezebell:
You know, Cassandra, I like women too. I think you and I should get to know each other better. And have I told you that your hair looks amazing today?

(Cassandra shakes her head in disbelief)

Episode 1 – Online Dating Statistics

Welcome to Online Dating Tonight – a new animated talk show about online dating. Every Tuesday night a new episode will be posted along with a transcript of the production. Enjoy! Here is episode #1…

TRANSCRIPT

Cassandra:
Hi, my name is Cassandra and you are on the set of Online Dating Tonight by Online Dating Magazine. Every week from this set we will explore a different online dating issue. We may talk about online dating safety or simply offer some profile tips. And most weeks we will have a special guest who will share his or her tips or experiences with online dating.

Tonight, we’re going to talk about online dating statistics and the popularity of finding love on the Internet. For that, we have Alex, our very own online dating expert.

Alex:
Thank you. (audience applause). Thank you. Thanks. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Thanks. Thank you.

Cassandra:
Come on over and have a seat. You obviously know how to work an audience. Now then, how popular is online dating?

Alex:
Online dating is a 1.5 billion dollar a year industry. And here is what we know about single people and online dating. By the way, ladies, I’m still single (audience laughter). Cassandra, what we know is that 1 out of every 5 single people in the United States has dated someone they met online. In other words, 1 out of every 5 relationships were started via an online dating service.

Cassandra:
Really?

Alex:
Yes, and with 96 million singles in the United States, it’s now the third most popular way to find a potential soulmate.

Cassandra:
So does that mean that bars and night clubs are number one?

Alex:
Only for me (audience laughter). Seriously, though, the number one way is through work or school. Number two is friends and family. Online dating is third. As you can see, online dating is moving up the list. Every year it becomes more popular.

Cassandra:
Many years ago, online dating had a stigma, didn’t it?

Alex:
Many years ago I had more hair (points to balding head – audience laughter). The point is that with time things change. Everyone now knows someone who met through an online dating service.

Cassandra:
Do people actually marry who meet online?

Alex:
According to Online Dating Magazine, there are more than 280,000 marriages a year from people who met online.

Cassandra:
That is a big number.

Alex:
Yes, more than the number of hairs on my head (audience laughter)

Cassandra:
And with that it is time to conclude our first episode of Online Dating Tonight. You can find more online dating statistics at onlinedatingmagazine.com. Join us next week as our topic will be online dating scammers with special guest, Jezzebell.

(concluding music plays – show is over)

Alex:
Hey, Cassandra, do you find men who are going bald attractive?

Cassandra:
Why do you ask?

Alex:
Because if you do then I’m going bald. If you don’t then I’m thinking of trying out this new hair replacement spray.

Cassandra:
(frustrated) Oh, where do they find these guys?
